Natural pavement, clean air
Natural arid decontamination additive: EcodurNOx®
Did you know that a path can also help clean the air?
This isn't science fiction. There are solutions that allow parks, bike lanes, roundabouts, and even dirt roads integrated into the city to gradually contribute to reducing air pollution.
At Ecointelligent Solutions, we've been working on these types of surfaces for some time: natural aggregate pavements stabilized with active photocatalytic technology, capable of acting as environmental filters.
The idea is simple: use what is already part of the environment... to improve it.
And the best part: this technology isn't limited to a single formula. It can also be adapted to other compacted aggregate pavements, expanding its application to different urban environments.
A quiet, useful, and realistic way to make a cleaner city.
What is photocatalysis?
It is based on the natural principle of decontamination of nature itself. Just as photosynthesis, thanks to sunlight, is able to eliminate CO2 to generate organic matter, photocatalysis eliminates other common pollutants in the
atmosphere, such as NOx, SOx, VOCs, through an oxidation process activated by solar energy.
How does photocatalysis work in soil stabilization?
Photocatalysis is a photochemical reaction that converts solar energy into chemical energy on the surface of a catalyst or substrate, a semiconductor material that accelerates the reaction rate. During the process, both oxidation and reduction reactions occur. This helps eliminate most pollutants in cities.
Where do NOx gases come from?
The main sources of NOx are automobiles, power plants and other
industrial, commercial, and domestic sources that burn fuels. However, the most significant generation is due to anthropogenic causes: the use of fossil fuels and exhaust from combustion vehicles.
What health problems do NOx gases cause?
- Respiratory system diseases.
- Cardiovascular diseases.
- Degenerative diseases.
- Anxiety and stress.
- Reduction in life expectancy...

EcodurNOx® Additive
The EcodurNOx® additive is composed of
one of the main components as
Titanium dioxide (TiO2) and other environmentally friendly components. Once applied to the pavement surface, it absorbs ultraviolet light. When this happens, hydroxide (OH) is produced, which acts as a strong deoxidizing agent.
Oxidizing agent. Hydroxide surrounds and destroys dangerous air pollutants and organic substances such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) and VOCs. These pollutants and harmful bacteria then break down and become nitrate.
(NO3−) along with some water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2) which is released into the atmosphere.
