Stabilized Pavements That Decontaminate the Air, Beyond a Simple Coating

EcodurNOx® — Active technology for cleaner and more sustainable cities

We have developed an exclusive technical solution: pavements made of natural aggregate stabilized with polymer and photocatalytic treatment.

Did you know that pavement can actively contribute to cleaning urban air? At Smart Eco Solutions, we've developed a unique technical solution: polymer-stabilized aggregate pavements with photocatalytic treatment, capable of continuously and silently reducing nitrogen oxides (NOx) and improving air quality.

This innovative system, based on our EcodurNOx® additive, transforms surfaces such as roads, roundabouts, squares, and bike lanes into durable, pollution-reducing structural pavements, without the need for asphalt or concrete. We apply photocatalysis directly to a compact, stable, and age-resistant surface.

✅Structural durability guaranteed thanks to local aggregate and polymer stabilization

✅Real reduction of NOx pollutants through active photocatalytic technology

✅Natural look that blends into parks, rural settings, or sensitive areas

✅No emissions or invasive works, easy to maintain, ecological and functional

Decontamination quality validated by ISO 22197 testing

Our decontaminating pavements have been subjected to effectiveness tests under the international standard ISO 22197, which evaluates the ability of photocatalytic materials to reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) present in the air.

What is photocatalysis and how does it clean the air?

Photocatalysis is a natural process inspired by photosynthesis. Just as plants use sunlight to transform CO₂ into oxygen, photocatalysis uses solar radiation to eliminate atmospheric pollutants such as NOx, SOx, and VOCs.

At Smart Solutions, we apply this technology to stabilized natural aggregate pavements, creating structural and functional surfaces that reduce polluting gases without the need for fragile or expensive surface layers.

Our photocatalytic system operates continuously and silently, improving air quality in every square meter of treated soil.

How does photocatalysis work on dirt pavement?

Photocatalysis is a photochemical reaction that converts solar energy into an active tool against pollution. In terracotta pavements treated with our system, this reaction occurs on the surface of the pavement, stabilized by a strategically incorporated catalyst (such as titanium dioxide, TiO₂).

This material acts as a semiconductor: it accelerates the oxidation and reduction reactions that transform atmospheric pollutants (such as NOx) into harmless compounds that are eliminated with rainwater.

Thus, every square meter of pavement not only stands the test of time, but also helps clean the air in our cities.

Main sources of NOx pollution in cities

Nitrogen oxides (NOx) come mainly from road traffic (diesel and gasoline vehicles), thermal power plants, and industrial and domestic activities involving combustion.

In urban environments, 60–80% of NOx emissions are due to the use of fossil fuels in combustion engines, with exhaust pipes being a critical source of pollution. This pollutant load directly affects air quality and public health.

Effects of NOx gases on human health

Prolonged exposure to nitrogen oxides (NOx) can cause:

✅ Respiratory diseases such as bronchitis, asthma, and COPD.

✅ Cardiovascular risks, increasing blood pressure and heart attacks.

✅ Neurological disorders and degenerative diseases.

✅ Problems with anxiety, stress, and chronic fatigue.

✅ Reduction in life expectancy in exposed urban areas.

How our decontaminating natural pavement system works step by step

We transform natural pavements into resilient, decontaminating surfaces through a synergistic combination of structural stabilization and photocatalytic technology.

EcodurNOx®: The Natural Pavement that Cleans Urban Air

Urban environments demand visible, sustainable, and effective solutions. From Soluciones Ecointeligentes, we present EcodurNOx®, a photocatalytic additive designed to be integrated into polymer-stabilized pavements, creating resilient surfaces that, in addition to being walkable, actively help purify the air.

Thanks to its innovative technology, EcodurNOx® transforms air pollutants (such as NOx) into harmless substances using only sunlight. This makes it a strategic tool for city councils, public institutions, and urban projects committed to the environment and public health.

What does EcodurNOx® bring to urban spaces?

Thanks to its innovative photocatalytic technology, EcodurNOx® transforms air pollutants, especially nitrogen oxides (NOx), into harmless substances using only the energy of sunlight. This makes it an ideal tool for reducing air pollution in highly frequented public spaces.

Why implement EcodurNOx® in urban environments?

  • Effectively reduces pollution: lowers NOx levels, promoting healthier urban spaces.

  • Demonstrates environmental leadership: reinforces the institutional commitment to an active sustainability policy.

  • Improves quality of life: creates cleaner, safer, and more aesthetically pleasing environments for residents, pedestrians, and visitors.

  • It adapts easily to existing projects: it can be incorporated into stabilized pavements without the need for invasive works.

  • Respectful urban aesthetics: Maintains the natural appearance of the terrain, harmonizing with the urban environment.

Ideal applications for municipalities and public spaces:

  • Urban or peri-urban bike lanes

  • School routes and pedestrian areas near hospitals, parks or community centers

  • Nature trails and municipal roads with limited traffic

  • Green areas and unpaved urban roundabouts

  • Squares with moderate traffic or spaces for citizen stays

With EcodurNOx®, cities not only stabilize the natural surface, but also transform it into an active agent for air pollution control. A real solution for improving air quality without sacrificing aesthetics or environmental friendliness.

Let's take a step together toward a cleaner, healthier future for our cities with EcodurNOx®.
